Choir Expectations
Dear Students and Parents,

My name is Mr. Jim Tiede. I am the Choir Director at Ramsey.

Below you will find some very important information regarding the choir at Ramsey.

Objectives

The goal of this class, through rehearsals and performances, is to achieve a high degree of musical learning and performance excellence. It is the responsibility of each student to be prepared for each rehearsal. It is only through careful preparation that the goals of the class will be achieved.

Expectations and materials
Students are to be on time and prepared for each rehearsal. Being prepared means both physical and mental readiness. Students are to bring a notebook and a pencil to each rehearsal.

Proper behavior is necessary to have a successful experience for all students. Attendance and participation are important for quality and educational rehearsals. Detention will be assigned for tardiness. All people and property are to be treated with respect! No exceptions! Food, gum, candy and beverages are not permitted in the choir room. Violation of these rules may result in a consequence.

Concerts

Public performances are an important part of the choral experience. Concert attendance is mandatory. Students will not only perform, but also write a short evaluation of the other groups performing. If a student must miss an event because of a family emergency or illness, the instructor must be notified in a timely manner through a note from a parent or guardian. If a student is excused from a performance, the points missed may be made up by doing an approved project that is presented to the class. Points lost because of an unexcused absence cannot be made up.

All concerts are held at Ramsey Junior High and begin at 7:00 pm unless otherwise noted. Students are to be dressed and ready to go one half hour before performance time. Every year, requests are made for one of our groups to perform for special events. Because of this, performances may be added to the required concert dates. I will notify you in as timely manner as possible.

Concert Attire

Students are to dress up for all public performances.
The following is the required concert attire:
Boys: White dress shirt, black dress pants, black shoes
Girls: White blouse, black skirt/slacks, black shoes
No t-shirts, jeans or tennis shoes are allowed.

Concert Dates
Thursday, November 6, 2008
Thursday, February 26, 2009
Tuesday, May 19, 2009

Grading

Grades are based on the number of points earned during a marking period. Points are given for most musical activities that a student participates in or observes.
